It will eventually feature more than 3,000 residential homes with a mix of single-family homes, townhouses and duplexes. Ladco has currently serviced Stage 7 of Prairie Pointe and builders are now constructing there. The primary focus of that stage is single-family homes, with 237 serviced lots. Stage 7 is about halfway to complete, and more lots were made available this summer. Work on Stage 7 is scheduled to wrap up sometime next year. One of many amenities Prairie Pointe has to offer is a wealth of parks and greenspace. The latest addition is a six-acre park to be unveiled later this year near the corner of Waverley Street and Firestone Drive. Work has begun on the next two phases of development in Prairie Pointe. Stage 8 near the southwest corner of Kenaston Boulevard and Waverley Street is currently being serviced and will feature a mix of duplexes, townhomes and multi- family units. Stage 9 will add 127 single-family lots that will be available to builders next year. Highland Pointe in northwest Winnipeg is also shaping up to feature a range of housing options. In 2021, construction began in the community, located one kilometre south of the North Perimeter
Highway and east of McPhillips Street. Servicing work on Phase 2 recently wrapped up, and it will eventually include 317 single-family, duplex and townhouse lots. Work has begun on Phase 3, which will feature 356 new lots with a similar mix of new homes. Ladco recently sold a property near the intersection of Ferrier Street and Fernbank Avenue to Seymour Pacific Developments that will be home to the neighbourhood’s first apartment community, Highland View Apartments. A second multi- family development is also in the works, adding more than 50 new townhouses. Another buzz-worthy addition to Highland Pointe will be a new four- acre park on Fernbank Avenue near Thrush Street and Nuthatch Bay. Carruthers says it’s gratifying to see the developments the company has been involved with grow and mature. “I always say to people that what I like most about this job is to be able to see the communities develop from an idea through to completion.” Visit www.ladco.mb.ca to learn more about Prairie Pointe, Highland Pointe and other Ladco communities.
development the Winnipeg-based company oversees offers a variety of housing options for families to choose from. “That’s one of our primary goals: to make sure we have inclusive commu- nities. We want to have a wide range of housing options from apart- ment-style rental housing to town- house rentals, to duplex and town- house ownership, more entry-level home ownership opportunities right up to single-family homes and million- dollar amenity homes on the lake,” says Michael Carruthers, Ladco’s manager of land development. “We target a varied market, and that’s good for people because it means they have the opportunity to purchase their first home and also their last home in those communities. They can age in place and live in our communities all the way through.” That’s certainly the case in Ladco’s two latest communities: Highland Pointe in the northern part of Winnipeg and Prairie Pointe in the south end of the city. Located in Waverley West, Prairie Pointe is a 640-acre mixed-use community that launched in 2015.
