“In contemporary, it could be lift-up doors, it could be aluminum frame doors, different countertops. Whereas, in traditional, we are still doing quite a bit where the is- land is different at the base from the perimeter with a more furniture look,” he says. “Some people do want a lot of open cabinetry or glass doors and some don’t want any,” he adds. “It really is very personalized.” Verrier has seen a lot of mixes and matches with the addi- tion of decorative pieces to cabinetry such as mouldings and corbels, and both designers see a continued desire for lots of drawers and big islands with a single-tier top. “The advantage of the single-tiered island is that it gives you a great work area or buffet area and people definitely want some seating so they can entertain,” Goodwin says. “They are much easier to work around.” However, user-friendly spaces that look beautiful and make the best use of space are always in style, and homeowners are satisfying their own individual taste. “If there is any strong trend, it’s a very personalized kitch- en, from very traditional to very contemporary and ev- erything in between.”

Visions Kitchen Showcase designers Todd Goodwin and Marcel Verrier say they are also seeing paint fin- ishes that favour shades of grey, often highlighted with

‘If there is any strong trend, it’s a very personalized kitchen, from very traditional to very contemporary and everything in between’

is Huntington Homes, which favours contemporary styles. That’s evident in Huntington’s show home at 133 Rose Lake Court, which shines with glass-and-met- al elements, quartz countertops, high-gloss cabinetry and built-in appliances, all grounded with luxe engi- neered hardwood flooring. Whether the kitchen is contemporary or traditional, Goodwin says people want accent pieces.
