This pipe should be visible, sticking up from the floor somewhere in the basement and will make a radon mitigation system easier and more efficient to install. Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the soil and can build up to dangerous concentrations inside any home, no matter when it was constructed. Exposure to elevated radon levels is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Since radon is invisible and has no smell or taste, the only way to know the radon level in your home is to test for it. A radon test is simple to do. WARNING: These measures don’t fix your radon. Once occupied, EVERY HOME NEEDS TO BE TESTED FOR RADON. If levels are high it means your radon rough-in needs to be activated with an installed fan.
