‘It’s been my dream to have hardwood floors, but I can’t afford to replace them every 20 minutes’

“It’s been my dream to have hardwood floors, but I can’t afford to replace them every 20 minutes,” he laughs. Outdoors, Southwynn built a fenced dog run at the front of the Deer Pointe house, and Brown says the owners planned to add a second run at the rear. While they could have just added an extra bathroom for people and pooch- es to share, the dog shower off the ga- rage has low tiled walls and a flexible hose to make bathing and post-bath cleanup easier. And the dogs can be confined to their own dedicated room, with a view of the street and a built-in vacuum to deal with stray hair. Not all the creature comforts in the home were designed for canines. Brown says the modern shed roof sys- tem allows for high ceilings and plenty of natural light in the great room. There are large built-in art niches in the entryway at the front door, and the home’s sunroom “captures 180° of per- fection,”taking in all the scenic views of a lake, walking paths, mature trees and Breezy Bend Golf & Country Club. “It was really neat to see them do this,” Brown says. “One of my favourite features of the home was the type of flooring they used. It looks like a greyish hardwood but in fact it’s a laminate, and it’s the tough- est, most durable laminate I’ve ever seen in my life. You can take a key to it and scrape hard and you wouldn’t even see any damage to it.” Brown was so impressed he’s installing the same laminate flooring in his own home, which his family shares with two big boxers.
