Parade of Homes | Spring 2022

CELEBRATING 85 YEARS OF INNOVATION YOU’VE COME A LONG WAY, BUILDERS

>> When the Manitoba Home Builders’ Association (MHBA) was conceived in 1937, its founders — Frank Lount, Henry Borger, Walter Senicki, Henry Pehrson, Frank Mager and A. W. Hagg — were far ahead of the curve. The first such provincial association, the MHBA even preceded the Canadian Home Builders’ Association by six years. MHBA members are still breaking new ground 85 years later, and showcasing the latest and greatest home designs each spring and fall during the Parade of Homes. Ultra-fashionable trends over the years have included features like pink bathroom fixtures, floor-to-ceiling sheets of faux-wood wall panelling and avocado green or harvest gold appliances. In the 1990s, open-concept kitchens and great rooms made their local debut, and some style elements that have come and gone are back again — think split-level designs, wallpaper and, ahem, Kitchen Aid ranges in Kyoto glow, a colour that looks like a mashup of avocado and that harvest gold of old. During the Spring Parade of Homes, check out smart-home technology in several show homes, or visit builder websites for a space-age experience — a 3D tour. Keep tabs on the MHBA website at homebuilders.mb.ca for news and events as the 85th year progresses.
