THE KITCHEN IS PROBABLY ALSO ONE OF THOSE SPACES THAT PEOPLE ARE CONSIDERING MORE BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO COOK MORE NOW.
“Ribbon fireplaces were a bit too modern for the esthetic we were going for — we wanted it to look a bit more traditional,” Miller says. “And we still wanted to use an electric fireplace. The electric fireplaces we always think, ‘You can have the fire going without it, you know, melting your face.’ ” The dining area opens on to a partiallly covered deck, and the entire open space is bathed in natural light. “One of the main things that people really love about that house is the large windows,” Miller says. “People have been talking about how big the windows are and how there’s all this light in the kitchen and great room. There’s not as much divide between the inside and the outside.”
There are more surprises here. Instead of a standard ribbon fireplace and entertainment unit, there’s a squarish fireplace, surrounded by tile in a herringbone pattern and capped with shiplap. And here’s something you don’t see very often — a mantle.
