>> Building homes is more than just a job for the Maric family. It’s a passion they wouldn’t trade for any other calling. Steve and Cathie Maric started the com- pany 41 years ago in 1973, and their chil- dren Tanya and Peri are builders born and bred. “Since I grew up in this business, it was something I was always passionate about and really enjoyed,” says Peri, who is vice- president of architectural design. “When you’re this passionate about something, it’s easy to come to work everyday. It was a pretty easy transition for me.”

Steve Maric was a cabinet-builder in Croatia before he immigrated to Manitoba, where he met his future wife and plied his trade on behalf of established builders. “My dad was working on other houses in the ’70s and felt he could do better. He started very small. He didn’t have any idea he’d end up where we are now, but he did have the desire to build better homes from the be- ginning,” Peri says. Steve’s flair for woodwork is reflected in a signature feature in all Maric Homes— the baseboards, casings and doors are custom-milled. “Woodwork is something we’re known for. You can walk into any of our homes and see warm, rich wood,” says Tanya, vice-president of operations.
