Some of the best windows in the world are made here because of the Canadian climate, Phillips says. “One of the things we are most proud of is the way we build our Apex Window Series. Fusion- welded window corners have made the PVC window industry possible. The Apex Series goes beyond welded window corners and uses V-Weld to ensure multi-unit frame joints are welded too. With V-Weld, we have achieved fully welded frames at every point of the frame jointery,” explains Phillips, describing the ground- breaking technology that helps keep the outside elements from seeping into a home, virtually eliminating air and water leaks. In addition to the critical functional aspects of today’s window trends, there’s also a number of styles and sizes to consider. “The most popular item that’s come on board is black interior window frames. They make the outdoors pop. We use acrylic wrap to add colour to our window frames. Acrylic wrap on
the profile is a much more durable method of adding colour to window frames. You can do different colours and wood grains,” he says. “We’ve seen more focus on patio doors, so much so that we’ve adopted a new line of folding doors that open to the exterior. Patio folding doors can open 10 to 20 feet and are great to go into a sunroom area. Large configurations of Atmosphere folding doors start at $20,000 and catch a lot of attention and wow factor.” Windows can set a room’s tone, and when we spend as much time indoors as our cold climate sometimes dictates, the right window options can lead to enhanced views worth pondering. “There’s not too many things that can pay you back in the long term. Energy-efficient windows are a large part of future energy savings for homeowners,” Phillips says. “Investing in the exterior envelope of your home is something that will save you down the road.”
