LANDSCAPING CREATES AN OUTDOOR HAVEN AND AN EXTENSION OF OUR HOME.

>> FOR SOME PEOPLE , gardening is a seasonal hobby. It helps them relax and enjoy the outdoors. For others, it’s that and more. Caring for plants and seeing them grow and flourish enriches their lives, as well as their home environments. Growing trends toward decorating with plants and cultivating kitchen herbs and other edibles make plant care a rewarding experience year- round, and there are many advantages that nurture body, mind and soul, says Carla Hrycyna, president and co-owner of St. Mary’s Nursery & Garden Centre. “We know that plants outdoors help to protect the world in many ways. Landscaping creates an outdoor haven and an extension of our home. Tree canopies provide shade, and large trees and shrubs provide shelter from winter winds. Plants also perform air exchange, improving the quality of our air,” Hrycyna says. Indoor plants provide similar benefits, and houseplants like pothos, Boston ferns, snake plants, Gerbera daisy and Dracaena marginata are particularly good air purifiers.
