Parade of Homes | Fall 2018

Low-maintenance succulents are another popular option. “The diversity with succulents makes them favourable for inside the home, as well as on the patio. Growing them indoors is becoming popular throughout the fall and winter,” Hrycyna says. Cacti and tillandsia (air plants that don’t require soil) hold easy-care appeal for younger gardeners, who are now teaching their mature counterparts about this category of plants. And Zanzibar plants are virtually indestructible, thriving with minimal water and attention. Traditionally an outdoor garden staple, herbs are being brought indoors to feed a demand for fresh, home-grown food. And attractive citrus plants are making their way into more kitchens, too. Lemons, limes and oranges can be grown indoors through the winter months and taken outdoors when weather permits.

THE DIVERSITY WITH SUCCULENTS MAKES THEM FAVOURABLE FOR INSIDE THE HOME, AS WELL AS ON THE PATIO.
