SEEING GREEN — Cont’d from page 109

Hrycyna cautions that certain conditions are necessary when bringing outdoor plants indoors to continue their lives as a houseplant. While some plants tolerate low levels of sunlight, others may require additional light sources to thrive.

WHILE SOME PLANTS TOLERATE LOW LEVELS OF SUNLIGHT, OTHERS MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL LIGHT SOURCES TO THRIVE.

“Supplemental lighting such as small table-top spectrum lighting for desk-top/table-top plants are being used to provide that extra lighting when required. With interior temperatures being cooler during the winter months, watering habits need to be altered as well.” There are lifestyle considerations, too. Some plants may be toxic to pets and, conversely, you’ll want to ensure your plants are safely out of reach of curious kittens and wagging dog tails. When in doubt, ask an expert. St. Mary’s is open year-round to help you make smart indoor and outdoor plant selections.
