FIREPLACES — Cont’d from page 115
Whether a fireplace burns gas or wood, it’s something homeowners have come to expect in a premium home. “It’s part of the great-room look,” says Venuto, noting that a fireplace is essentially a standard feature in new high-end homes. Though prices can go much higher for larger units, Bennett says the installed price of a typical fireplace is often in the $5,000 to $7,000 range. Some luxury homes are likely to have two or even three — one in the great room, another in the master bedroom and a third in a walkout basement or in a spa bathroom. Gas fireplaces don’t require as much depth as wood versions, so they can fit into more spaces. They might be used as a divider between a great room and foyer, or between a master bedroom
AS MUCH AS FIREPLACES HAVE EVOLVED IN THE STYLE DEPARTMENT, EVEN MORE IMPORTANT ARE THE CHANGES YOU CAN’T SEE.
