>> IF YOU LOOK DOWN in most new homes today, you’re likely to see a lot of natural tones and subtle patterns. But perhaps the most significant trend in flooring is the return of vinyl, thanks to new products that come closer than ever to replicating the look and feel of wood and tile. One of those products is luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring, says Jan Derrett, who keeps tabs on trends and technology for The Floor Show. “I’ll put wood samples down and LVP and people won’t even notice that it’s not wood,” she says. Derrett sees LVP taking over much of the market currently served by laminate because it’s waterproof, easy to clean and less expensive. With natural colours, matte finishes and a variety of textures, LVP can provide the look of hardwood for about one third of the price, she
