says. Because it’s very durable and less prone to stains and scratches, LVP is an especially good fit for pet owners and families with young children. Francine Curtis, of Curtis Carpets, points to the versatility of another vinyl product — rigid-core vinyl composite. It can also be made to resemble wood or tile and is guaranteed to withstand a wide range of temperatures, making it suitable for locations like sunrooms. If you like the look of marble, vinyl tiles that look just like real stone are low-maintenance options, since they don’t require sealing to repel liquid. (Marble is naturally very porous, Curtis notes.) Tiles — whether ceramic or vinyl — are being made in a variety of shapes, textures and sizes. Some designers employ the retro look of hexagonal tiles — the kind you might see in a subway station or a 1920s diner — but in larger sizes. Curtis says tiles as big as 18 inches by 36 inches are not uncommon, since a larger format allows for a cleaner look, with fewer edges.
