One of the most popular new screens is the mirror TV. An HD TV when it’s turned on, it converts to a stunning-looking mirror when it’s turned off. Mirror TVs can be customized to provide the screen, mirror and frame to suit virtually any taste. One of the most popular brands on the market is Séura, which also offers a number of waterproof TVs that can be mounted anywhere from the backsplash in your kitchen to the shower in your bathroom. One of its latest products can be used outdoors year-round. Estabrook says the Storm all-weather model can operate even in Winnipeg’s frigid winters and scorching summers and retails for slightly more than many indoor models.
IT LOOKS LIKE BLACK GLASS BUT THERE’S A TV BEHIND IT. A CABINET MANUFACTURER CAN INSTALL IT LIKE A REGULAR CABINET DOOR. IT RUNS ANDROID SO ANY APP THAT YOU WOULD HAVE FOR STUFF … WOULD RUN ON THIS AS WELL.
OK, great, but how’s that going to help when you are slaving over a hot stove and your team has a make-or-break game you can’t miss? Well, one German manufacturer offers a kitchen cupboard door that doubles as a TV screen and computer tablet. It allows you to call up the recipe you are preparing and then flip back to the game without missing a beat. “It looks like black glass but there’s a TV behind it. A cabinet manufacturer can install it like a regular cabinet door,” Estabrook says. “It runs Android so any app that you would have for stuff … would run on this as well.” Zach Gerbrandt, a residential design consultant with The Accurate Technology Group, says the only thing limiting where a TV screen can be installed these days is a customer’s imagination. “Pretty much anywhere you could think of having a TV we can put one there now,” he says. Accurate Technology’s display home even features a TV hidden behind a framed picture. The picture drops down to reveal the screen and can be rolled back up once you’ve finished watching a program. Now that’s thinking outside the box.
