A travelling island that rolls out from a base cabinet is another option that provides both storage and extra workspace. And James says a few alterations can make traditional pantries far more functional. Adding open base cabinets with a countertop and a set of upper cabinets in a corner pantry provides more stable storage than wire shelving, and it’s more attractive, too. “It makes the space so much more accessible,” he says. “I really like the look of it and people love it when they do it.”
