THE 24-HOUR HOUSE Cont’d from page 7
Aside from the basement, which had been poured a few days prior, no work took place until the stroke of 5 p.m. that Saturday, at which point swarms of workers began their race against the clock. A photo taken just minutes after 5 p.m. shows work on the exterior walls was underway immediately; a half-hour later, teams had already started on the interior walls and rafters. Some of the walls were partially pre-fabricated, but what really gave the workers an edge over their Toronto peers was that almost every aspect of the Winnipeg build was finished ahead of schedule.
These days, the giant clock in the front yard is gone, but the “house in a day” still boasts an impressive curb appeal.
