Parade of Homes | Fall 2017

top10 kitchen trends: 1. Clean lines, built-ins and simple door styles are in vogue right now. Transitional styles — a fusion of contemporary and traditional — are most popular, while industrial and mid-century modern styles are emerging trends. 2. White and grey painted cabinets rule. But blue painted and high-gloss cabinets, and black-and-blue colour schemes, could be the next big thing. 3. Two-toned kitchens, and mixed materials and metals on surfaces and as accents. 4. Wood cabinets dominate, but metal is an emerging trend. 5. Furniture-look pieces, rollouts and pullouts and under-cabinet LED lighting are the top kitchen cabinet features. Crown moulding is declining. Rustic and reclaimed woods get honourable mention. 6. Quartz is still the top choice for countertops, ahead of granite. 7. Induction cooktops, convection ovens and microwave drawers. 8. Technology — power strips under cabinets instead of on the backsplash, and wiring for tech integration. Trending upwards: Internet- connected appliances and docking stations. There are a lot of grey areas in today’s trendiest homes. Along with white, grey is still the top colour choice, according to the 2017 Kitchen & Bath Design Trends Report. Based on a National Kitchen & Bath Association member survey conducted in August 2016, the report predicts the most popular design choices for the year.
