Tossing herbs like basil and rosemary among your veggies will complement their growth. Just bear in mind bugs and disease are elements of nature that even the most seasoned vegetable gardeners can’t avoid. 5. Radishes and spinach are cold crops that can be particu- larly tricky to grow during our scorching summers. But don’t let the unpredictable climate deter you from planting anything, Hrycyna says. “I’m always going to encourage someone to grow something. I’m the kind of person who says you only grow by your challenges that you’re given.”
