other exterior features in black or not. “Black is definitely my top seller,” O’Dell says. “I even have a builder who comes to us before we install the door for them to take all the hardware and get it all sprayed black. It looks really nice.” A close runner-up is one of the standard “wood look” colours, O’Dell says. “People are putting wood trims and wood look around their house, maybe a square pillar on their front steps. And they want their garage door to match,” but without nearly as much mainte- nance required every year.

While many homes still display small horizontal windows across the top of the garage door, a top-to-bottom row is all the rage right now, O’Dell explains. “Windows being stacked verti- cally is so popular,” O’Dell says about the trendy look of stacking anywhere from two to five windows on one side of the door. No matter where they are placed, windows play double-duty: adding some style while also providing extra light inside the garage, especially when there’s no window inside.

The clean, contemporary look of a flush panel garage door — typi- cally made of steel — is attractive to homeowners who want their garage doors to blend seamlessly into the look of their home. “The flush panel has no emboss- ments, no windows, nothing fancy — it’s just a flat panel.
