“THIRTY PERCENT OF THE FOOD WE EAT IS DRIVEN BY INSECT-POLLINATED ACTIVITY, SO BEES AND OTHER INSECTS THAT POLLINATE PLANTS ARE CRITICAL TO THE PRODUCTION OF FOOD PRODUCTS.”

Nearly all flowering plants rely on pollinators, according to Bee Better Manitoba, a group of like- minded organizations that have joined forces to inspire and empower Manitobans to protect, conserve and create pollinator-friendly habitat at home and in their communities. “Thirty percent of the food we eat is driven by insect-pollinated activity, so bees and other insects that pollinate plants are critical to the production of

food products,” says Dr. Rob Currie, professor and head of Entomology at the University of Manitoba. “Pollinators make sure we have higher quality fruits and vegetables and greater diversity in our diets, and the native pollinators in particular are critical for making sure all of the flowering plants that exist in prairies and forests can survive and thrive.”
