Feeling Nostalgic?

>> Saving energy has been a selling point for home appliances since the icebox age. In the beginning, though, the focus was on muscle power — decreasing women’s energy output by increasing their use of electricity. During the 1920s, cooking “by wire” promised to transform kitchen drudgery into an absolute pleasure, while the first wringer washers of- fered a thrilling alternative to scrub- bing clothes on washboards in galva- nized tubs.
