Trail of Construction Cont’d from page 46

The Royalwood development also preserved 100 acres of forest, and that focus on greens pace continued when the company mounted the first phase of development in South Pointe in 2008, just west of Richmond West and Fort Richmond — both of which are Ladco develop ments started in the 1960s and 1970s. Already well established in southwest Win nipeg, South Pointe now has a residents’ as sociation, as well as a brand new kindergarten - Grade 7 school. École South Pointe opened in January. It offers English and French streams, and there’s a day care on-site, with 74 full-time spots and 40 more before-and-after school spots. Walking and biking trails, interconnected lakes and waterways, parks and playgrounds are in tegral to the 460-acre community, which will boast some 1,400 single-family homes, along with multi-family homes when it’s complete.

Planning for nature- and people-friendly spaces has carried over to the company’s new 640-acre Prairie Pointe, neighbouring South Pointe west of Kenaston Boulevard. Almost 60 acres are devoted to greenspace, and the community will have a diverse mix of housing and commercial development.
