The styles and finishes of today’s kitchens harmonize with the architectural style of the home,” explains Gino Vadacchino of Superior Cabinets. The dream of an uncluttered, utilitarian, stylish kitchen is the reality in many new homes. Hidden storage features such as appliance garages for small appliances or hidden pantries are becoming increasingly popular. Integrated features such as pull-out drawers and base-corner orga- nizational hardware can optimize storage space and provide easy access to cooking products, utensils, dishes and cutlery. Drawers on many modern cabinets now open to full extension, rather than three-quarters, to allow you to see everything inside. High-quality drawer glides and door hinges offer smooth, silent closure. “A trend to less upper cabinetry is continuing in popu- larity. This trend incorporates open shelves and plate and cup organizers in base and tall cabinetry and makes the kitchen look airier and more spacious,” Vadacchino says. “Backsplashes that match the countertops to create a seamless look are also very popular. This eliminates the grout line of tiles and makes for an easy-to-clean surface.” Vadacchino explains that there has been a shift away from high-gloss bright white finishes in kitchens toward softer whites and neutrals with a matte finish paired with warm wood tones. Matte finishes reflect light in a diffused way, he says, providing a more sophisticated and under- stated look. Countertops are also available in matte finishes to complete the look. “Metallic accents such as matte black or gold for handles and glass doors add layers of interest to today’s kitchen designs. Light wood finishes on white oak on a flat door style are very of the moment. A trend to all wood kitchens in two-tone stain colours is gaining momentum for 2025,” Vadacchino says.
