WHAT SHOULD CONSUMERS BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR WHEN BUYING INFUSED VODKA? The big thing is knowing the difference between flavoured and infused vodka. A lot of flavoured vodkas are clear because they’re made with artificial flavours. An infused vodka, on the other hand, will carry both the taste and the colour of whatever it was infused with — fruit, herbs, roots. That colour is proof that real ingredients were used. At Baltic Bros, all of our infusions are jewel-toned because real fruit goes into every bottle. If you’re shopping around, check the label. The best infusions will proudly list their natural ingredients.
HOW IS VODKA USUALLY CONSUMED IN POLAND — STRAIGHT OR COCKTAILED?
In Polish culture, serving infused vodka is all about hospitality. If you were a guest in someone’s home, you’d likely be offered a homemade nalewka in a small crystal cordial glass — chilled and meant to be sipped slowly. This would be served alongside canapés and pickled vegetables. You would spend the afternoon sipping, nibbling and chatting. Infused spirits were also poured at weddings, celebrations or simply shared at the table. They would be used as shooters as part of a large toast to celebrate the opening of a major celebration or milestone. A lot of our Baltic Bros spirits carry that same tradition: they’re perfect as a shot, enjoyed over ice with a splash of soda or used as the star of a cocktail.
