HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT– MANITOBANS BENEFIT FROM TOURISM
Whenever we go somewhere in Manitoba, it’s almost always a tourism experience. Tourism is a vast industry that touches every corner of our province and it’s filled with people who are devoted to creating amazing experiences—whether it is maintaining our parks and trails, running our attractions or working at hotels, sporting events, concerts, museums, galleries and restaurants—or anything in between. From the way a walk in the park can lift our mood, a family trip can bring us closer together or a cultural experience can teach us new perspectives and ways of being, it’s all tourism. All of these things—including $1.82 billion in visitor spending, which generates $373 million in provincial tax revenue and supports over 25,000 direct and indirect tourism jobs—we owe to tourism.
The revenue generated through tourism enables investments in healthcare, education, infrastructure and more. For example, one year of tourism-generated tax revenue could fund Manitoba’s school nutrition program at its current level for the next 10 years. Backed by the award-winning Canada’s Heart is Calling brand, collaborative industry partners and an array of transformative visitor experiences, tourism offers us a powerful opportunity to bolster our cities, towns and communities as a great place in which to live, work or invest. The next time you dine out, take a trip to the museum or spend a day at the spa—know that it’s all part of the economic boost tourism provides every year and that you’re helping to build a stronger Manitoba.
