TOURISM IN MANITOBA
TOURISM IN MANITOBA: A SECRET WORTH SHARING A lmost $2 billion in revenue, this and more each year. Tourism in Manitoba generated $1.82 billion of revenue in 2023, thanks to roughly 10.4 million visitors that year. While visitation numbers have yet to return to pre-pandemic levels, tourism remains a substantial economic driver in the province, contributing approximately $373 million in provincial tax revenues. To put that value into context, that’s enough to resurface the highway from Winnipeg to Dauphin or to fund the provincial school nutrition program for 10 years at current spending levels, explains Angela Cassie, chief operating officer for Travel Manitoba. With an increased investment of $4.5 million from the provincial government in the 2025 budget and a renewed focus on promoting staycations for Manitobans and attracting other Canadians, tourism in the province is positioned for a year of growth, benefitting visitors and residents alike. The provincial government hopes that the increase will support initiatives to encourage Manitobans to travel thousands of jobs and a price- less sense of pride: Manitoba’s tourism industry produces all of within the province, attract more out-of- province visitors and enhance the growth of Indigenous tourism, resulting in a positive economic return on investment and an increase in provincial and local tax revenues.
