Summer is an ideal time to explore the province, and there are options for all kinds of travel and discovery. Several Manitoba festivals are celebrating anniversaries this year, meaning the energy will be turned up to 11. The Winnipeg Folk Festival is celebrating 50 years this July. The Manitoba Sunflower Festival in Altona and Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival in Dauphin are both celebrating 60th anniversaries. The Canadian Elite Basketball League championship weekend will take place in Winnipeg for the first time Aug. 21–24 — hosted by the Winnipeg Sea Bears — and there’s an abundance of other music, cultural and performing arts festivals and events happening all summer long. “There are so many things to discover here in Manitoba, things that are unexpected. We want to encourage Manitobans to build that trip, book a staycation, pick a region of the province you've never visited,” Cassie says, adding that locals can find resources by visiting one of Travel Manitoba’s four visitor information centres (at The Forks, Emerson, Whiteshell or Kirkella), checking its website or using GuideGeek, its new AI planning tool. “I think you'll be surprised and amazed about what's out there.” ■
