More than 28,000 Manitobans are involved the trucking industry, many doing tough jobs that are absolutely essential to our province's economy and prosperity. Winnipeg drivers believe our city has two seasons — "winter" and "construction." That is certainly the case this year — 2018 is a particularly busy period for roadwork in Winnipeg. As Mayor I know it's important to keep the roads in good shape to help all drivers and I know it's particularly important to truckers and the trucking industry. Winnipeg will see more than 150 lane kilometres improved as part of a $116-million investment with more than 200 projects this construction season to make your lives easier on the job. National Trucking Week is a time to celebrate the impact of the trucking industry in our community and the special events that mark the occasion are fun for everyone. From activities at truck stops and roadside inspection stations to BBQs, breakfasts, truck washes and charity events, I hope that each of you will have the time and opportunity to enjoy some of the great activities planned throughout the week. On behalf of the City of Winnipeg, I am pleased to extend best wishes to everyone working in the trucking industry and especially the organizers and volunteers whose effort and hard work makes National Trucking Week a great way to recognize your contributions. On behalf of Brandon City Council and the 50,000 residents of our fine city, let me extend warm wishes to everyone engaged in the trucking industry as we mark 2018 National Trucking Week. It is fabulous to see the ongoing forward strides in the industry through advanced logistics, enhanced safety and ongoing efficiency. In the City of Brandon, we have a long and proud history as a regional hub of trucking with hundreds of our citizens employed in the industry. Whether it be the professional drivers, dispatchers, dock workers, mechanics, office staff, sales associates, safety professionals or owners and managers, our trucking sector is extremely well served in this province. Every part of our everyday lives is somehow connected back to trucking; every product, service and material likely had wheels under it at some point. As we celebrate National Trucking Week let me extend very best wishes to all for another productive, prosperous and, most of all, a very safe year ahead. Sincerely, Rick Chrest Mayor, City of Brandon Mayor's Message NATIONAL TRUCKING WEEK - 3 I TRUCKING Mayor Brian Bowman City of Winnipeg
