>> Manitoba's second-largest city is enjoying a resurgence
unlike anything it has seen in quite some time.
More than a dozen new or relocating businesses moved
into Brandon's historic downtown area in the past few years,
helping to breathe new life into the city's core. And that sense
of enthusiasm has extended to the local housing market.
"We've had continued growth," says Meghan Paradis, internal
construction manager and senior estimator for Brandon-based
J&G Homes.
"We constantly have people coming into the community.
What we've noticed too is there's a lot of people moving from
rentals into housing and condos."
The third-generation family company and its development
arm, VBJ Developments, are capitalizing on Brandon's
momentum with several new projects.
One of those new developments is Bellafield, nestled in a
prime location in the southwest corner of the city.
"The great part about it is it's off one of the main arteries that
goes directly on to 18th Street, so you are in residential living
but you are so close in terms of everything you need without
having to be surrounded by it," Paradis says.
Future plans include a drainage lake and trail system —
part of a conscious effort to make Bellafield a walkable
neighbourhood.
"We want to make it its own little community where you can
stay in that community and go to the park and take your kids
to some greenspace and you don't have to drive across town
to do it," Paradis says.
