04 speakers 22ND ROTARY CAREER SYMPOSIUM 10:30 a.m. LOCATION: Millenium Suite SPEAKER: Jenna Johnston, Physiotherapist TOPIC: Physiotherapy ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Jenna has thoroughly enjoyed being a Physiotherapist for the last eight years since she graduated from the Univer- sity of Manitoba. She currently works in two private practice Physiotherapy clinics and loves to volunteer as a Physiother- apist at various events. LOCATION: 2E SPEAKER: Tannis Hogue, General Manager, Thermëa by Nordik Spa-Nature TOPIC: Marketing & Public Relations ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Tannis believes that when we are well, we are the best ver- sions of ourselves — we dream again and can accomplish great things. She brings over 20 years of experience in media, arts and culture, strategic planning, public relations and mar- keting with Development Winnipeg/Tourism Winnipeg, Mani- toba Film & Music, CHUM Radio, Economic Development Winnipeg and in her own past business as a consultant. LOCATION: 2F SPEAKER: Dr. Alexander Sawatsky, PhD, RSW, Associate Professor, Department of Social Work, Booth University College TOPIC: Social Work ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Dr. Sawatsky is the Director and Associate Professor with the Faculty of Social Work at Booth University College. His previous career was in mental health services in the U.S. He was a member of the board of directors with Manitoba Insti- tute of Registered Social Workers and presently a member of the board of directors of the Manitoba College of Social Workers (MCSW) and is a member of the board of directors at the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society (MSS). LOCATION: 2G SPEAKER: Chef Thomas Stuart, Executive Chef, Thermëa by Nordik Spa-Nature TOPIC: Culinary Careers ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Thomas Stuart is the Executive Chef at Thermëa by Nordik Spa-Nature in Winnipeg. His philosophy on food is to en- hance the spa experience by providing comforting and nour- ishing food to spa guests while supporting the local food community and local food suppliers. Thomas has created a work environment that encourages learning, growth, and creativity amongst his cooks. This culture that exists in the Thermëa kitchen aids in happy employees with minimal staff-turnover. LOCATION: 2H SPEAKER: James Favel, Executive Director, The Bear Clan Patrol Inc. TOPIC: Community Leadership ABOUT THE SPEAKER: James is a leader, establishing the Bear Clan Patrol, a grass- roots outreach and patrol group in north Winnipeg. He is a Governor General's Award recipient for Indigenous leader- ship, receiving Meritorious Service Decorations. These awards honour some of the province's most dedicated In- digenous and non-Indigenous leaders who are working to strengthen urban and rural Indigenous communities and cre- ate an environment in which reconciliation is possible. LOCATION: Pan Am Room *March 12 SPEAKER: DJ Blitz, Virgin Radio Winnipeg 103.1 TOPIC: Radio & Broadcasting ABOUT THE SPEAKER: DJ Blitz is a radio personality, DJ, and social media influencer. Blitz spends time out of the studio in the community, visiting schools, and playing at the hottest clubs in the city. He is the creator of the "What's Up Winnipeg" slogan and finger swoosh combo and his social media network has allowed him to work up the food chain in the entertainment industry and land a career in radio at Winnipeg's #1 Hit Music Station,103.1 Virgin Radio. LOCATION: Pan Am Room *March 13 SPEAKER: Tyler Magz, Virgin Radio Winnipeg 103.1 TOPIC: Radio & Broadcasting ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Tyler Magz, a.k.a. "Manila Ice" is the huge personality be- hind the afternoon drive at 103.1 Virgin Radio. Whether he's spinning the Top 5 at 5 or interviewing Camila Cabello, Tyler brings a fun, energetic vibe to Winnipeg's #1 Hit Music Station. Back in high school, Tyler dreamed of becoming a screenwriter, but he's now happier with his calling in the radio broadcasting industry. He's emceed various events within the city including the Young Humanitarian Awards and the Our Manitoba Heroes Gala and loves helping out within the Filipino community in Winnipeg. LOCATION: Presentation Theatre SPEAKER: Khaled Shariff, CEO Project Whitecard Inc. TOPIC: Virtual Reality Development ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Khal is the founder of the Project Whitecard companies, fo- cusing on using highly visual, gaming software. His projects partners include the Canadian Space Agency and NASA for which he created four highly-interactive science games. His award-winning games won grants from the MacArthur and Bill and Melinda Gates foundations, and from the Canadian Media Fund, and include "gamifying" Chris Hadfield's space station mission. He has spoken about Virtual Reality at the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers in San Francisco and has worked with the CBC in Toronto as the technical lead for Hockey Night in Canada. 11:30 a.m. LOCATION: Millenium Suite SPEAKER: Shawna Sloane-Seale, MS, NCC, RSW, Therapist, Master's in Counselling, Bachelor in Psychology TOPIC: Counselling & Therapy ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Shawna has a Master's in Counselling and Bachelor in Psychology. In addition to having a private practice – Center Line Counselling — she works at an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) providing counselling services to employ- ees from various organizations. Her therapeutic work is with addictions, marriage and family counselling and individual therapy encompassing a number of different issues includ- ing mental health concerns and life transitions. Her experi- ence has also included working in Forensic Psychiatry and Abnormal Psychology. LOCATION: 2E SPEAKER: Kevin Hughes, Director of Corporate Partnerships, Winnipeg Football Club TOPIC: Sales, Marketing & Sponsorship ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Kevin has been an expert in the sales and marketing field for over 22 years. He has worked with the Yellow Page Group, Bell Media and TSN 1290 and currently works with the Win- nipeg Blue Bombers organization. He is excited to come and share his knowledge and experience in sales and marketing and will speak about the differences of each role and the uniqueness of each job. LOCATION: 2F SPEAKER: Fauna Kingdon, Accountant TOPIC: Accounting ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Fauna is a Manitoba Métis, raised in Iqaluit, Nunavut, now living in Winnipeg. She has a Bachelor of Commerce (Hon) degree with distinction from the U of M, a Master's in Profes- sional Accounting and has earned her Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM) designation. Fauna was the only Indigenous Chartered Accountant in the 2009 graduating class and is one of the few Indigenous Chartered Profes- sional Accountants (CPA) in Canada. She is on the Board of Directors of Indspire and was a panelist on the Indspire Canada 150 Tour. LOCATION: 2G SPEAKER: Kathlyn Hossack BSc. CAT(C) PN1, Owner/Operator, Integrative Movement TOPIC: Athletic Therapy ABOUT THE SPEAKER: An Athletic Therapist, Kinesiologist and entrepreneur, Kath- lyn is the owner and operator of Integrative Movement. She also owns and consults within RideWell Performance, a specialized athletic therapy service for equestrian ath- letes in Canada. Most recently she has begun her training in Psychosomatic Breathwork under Numa Somatics, and has a special interest in using the combination of this work, movement, and manual therapies in chronic pain and trauma rehabilitation. LOCATION: 2H SPEAKER: Stacey Maes & Heidi Winter, Registered Nurses TOPIC: nursing ABOUT THE SPEAKERS: Stacey and Heidi are Registered Nurses at St. Boniface Hos- pital working in Internal Medicine. Stacey graduated from Mount Royal College in 2008, and began her nursing career in a rural hospital in St. Rose du Lac before moving to Win- nipeg. Heidi is a recent graduate from the College of Nurs- ing at the University of Manitoba. Along with working at St. Boniface Hospital, she is also an Agency Nurse contracted to rural Manitoba Hospitals.
