3 MANITOBA 55+ GAMES presented by PLAYNOW | SUPPLEMENT TO THE WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Prosthetics & Orthotics Specializing in www.andersonortho.ca WINNIPEG CLINIC 1.885.837.7190 BRANDON CLINIC 1.855.729.8216 For more than a decade, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries has played a key role in the Manitoba 55+ Games as the title sponsor. This year, the Games will feature a new logo and a new name, although the sponsorship of Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries will remain a constant. Starting this year, the official name will now be the Manitoba 55+ Games presented by PlayNow.com, which differs from the previous name of Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries 55+ Games. Shirley Campbell,Manager, Development & Sponsorships for Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, shared some of the reasoning behind the rebranding. "As presenting sponsor, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries looks to tie sponsorships back to our core business activities," she said. "PlayNow.com is one of our lines of business and we felt this brand was the best fit for the Manitoba 55+ Games." For the Crown corporation, it's important to show support for local causes and events, such as the Manitoba 55+ Games. "Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries is committed to supporting charitable and non-profit organizations across a variety of areas such as arts, culture, health, social causes, environment, diversity and sport. The Manitoba 55+ Games rely on volunteers, and promoting and supporting volunteerism is very important to our organization," Campbell said. "The Manitoba 55+ Games is an ideal fit for our Community Support Program as it is community focused and promotes healthy, active living for Manitobans 55 years of age and older through participation in sport and social activities." Above and beyond monetary contributions, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries extends its support to the Games in other ways. "In addition to financial support as presenting sponsor, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries provides branded shirts for the Manitoba 55+ Games volunteers and organizing committee, as well as tote bags for the participants," Campbell said. This type of community involvement continues to be a priority for the corporation. "Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries enriches the lives of Manitobans by contributing to the social and economic well-being of our province." At the same time, events like the Manitoba 55+ Games also generate a long list of positive spinoffs for Manitobans. "The Manitoba 55+ Games are truly representative of our province as this event travels to different communities each year," Campbell said, "contributing to the local economy while promoting healthy lifestyles." ❙ NEW LOOK FOR 55+ GAMES BY JENNIFER MCFEE FOR THE FREE PRESS June 11-13, 2019 Swan River The Games include a wide variety of events, including card games, fivepin bowling, floor shuffleboard, pickleball, horseshoes, golf, track, cycling, slo-pitch and many more.
