MAY 2013 • PAGE 17 BUFFALO NARROWS CELEBRATES TIM HORTONS GRAND OPENING Residents of Buffalo Narrows lined up out the door to get a cup of Tim Hortons famous coffee. On March 25, the Canadian coffee chain opened its doors in the town for the first time. "Four coffee pots going nonstop from open to close, I can't believe how much coffee we went through," said Calvin Daigneault, Store Manager at Northern Buffalo Narrows. "It was loud like a party Proudly standing with Manitoba's First Nations' families Greg Selinger Greg Dewar Rob Deanne Altemeyer Crothers Jennifer Howard Peter Bjornson in here, you could hear the crowd from all the way across the Northern store. A crazy party at Tim Hortons all day and all night, people were really excited." Since opening, coffee is the store's most popular product. In just a week and a half the store sold over 4,500 cups. Although coffee is the biggest seller, the store's baked goods are not far behind. "I call my baker 'The Muffin Man', because that's all he does all day; he makes tons of muffins and doughnuts constantly," joked Daigneault. On opening day, Tim Hortons gave away 500 mugs that were customized for Northern Buffalo Narrows. Each mug read 'Where you're always welcome', and inside was a coupon for a free coffee. "People were really liking the mugs, it's nice to have one to take home with you," said Daigneault. Although the new addition has been exciting, Daigneault says it has been somewhat of a challenge. "We weren't expecting it to be that busy on the first day, or every day after that, so of course there will be a few kinks," added Daigneault. "Overall though we're very happy with how it's going, and it has been very well received by our customers." Tim Hortons is located in the Buffalo Narrows Northern store, so shoppers can grab a cup of coffee before continuing their shopping experience. The opening of the restaurant has created five new jobs for the community and is open seven days a week. The coffee chain originally started in southern Ontario, but quickly spread across Canada. Most recently they have started expanding their stores to Northern communities like Buffalo Narrows.
