PAGE 18 • MAY 2013 PROVOCATIVE PORTRAYAL OF POWER AND POLITICS BLACKSTONE, a groundbreaking show that makes you ponder or flinch in your seat. Intense, compelling and challenging, Blackstone is a brazen exploration of First Nations' power and politics, unfolding over 17 one-hour episodes. This raw, authentic drama tells you the story of the fictitious Blackstone First Nation, suffering disintegration by its own corrupt leadership. From within the community, young leaders emerge opposing the status quo to create lasting and substantial change. When the series hit the airwaves it caused rumblings, mumblings and award-winning recognition in many circles. In just two seasons, Blackstone has won 20 awards and received 49 award nominations, including three nominations at this year's Canadian Screen Awards. With its success, it shouldn't surprise anyone that season three is in production and APTN is pleased to share with you it is scheduled to air on APTN in the fall. "We're very excited about the calibre of talent on this show," says Executive Producer Ron E. Scott, "and Season 3 is going to be the most provocative yet." At the end of its first award-winning season, Blackstone viewers were left with more questions than answers. Chief Andy Fraser (Eric Schweig) was up to no good, causing trouble for many members. What was Andy doing with the gun at the end of the first season? Who did he kill? What about former Chief Stoney (Carmen Moore)? Was she burned out from trying to establish a positive difference in her community? How did she deal with the gatekeepers that are Blackstone's current Chief and Council? Did her sister Gail (Michelle Thrush) conquer her addiction? Season two concluded with viewers continuing to be provoked by unanswered questions. Did Chief Andy Fraser avoid a seemingly imminent fall from his powerful position? Did he finally become accountable for his own actions after a body was found in Blackstone's dump? Former Chief Stoney fought to get media attention for Tracey Bull (Georgina Lightning) who went missing. Is Tracey gone forever? As sisters, did former Chief Stoney's and Gail's relationship improve by sharing temporary guardianship of Tracey's daughter? Has Gail maintained her path to recovery? APTN is bringing back seasons one and two of one of Canada's most compelling dramas, for those who just can't get enough or want to catch-up before season three launches.
