"People are buying our swim spa
at record numbers and they are
swimming year-round."

$40,000-plus for models with
features such as an attached hot
tub. That compares to installing an
average in-ground pool for about
$65,000 that can only be used
seasonally, he says.
Fitness centres are able to offer
a greater variety of equipment,
but Fisette says many people appreciate
the convenience of working out at home.
"You don't have to lug all your stuff to the gym, trying to get
ready for work at the gym and do all that," he says. "So I'm
hoping people will see it's just a little bit simpler at home, a
little bit faster."
Both experts note that a growing number of apps, online
programs and streaming fitness classes help with motivation
and mimic some of the social benefits of working out at clubs.
"That's kind of like the big trend right now, is the online
coaches who are working with people in real time,"
Carson says.
