SHOOT THE BACK OF THE TV SET, YOUR PC AND OTHER
ELECTRONICS BEFORE YOU DISMANTLE THEM. YOU'LL THANK
YOURSELF WHEN YOU'RE SETTING THEM UP IN YOUR NEW PLACE.
PACK BUG-OUT BAGS & BOXES
Prioritize your comfort and well-being on moving day. Pack and
carry essentials that let you function for at least three days and
unpack them in this order:
• You need immediate access to a functioning bathroom. Along
with the usual linens, soaps and papers include a spray cleaner,
cloths and sponges to wipe things down in a hurry.
• Each family member should have a bag with three days' worth of
clothing, toiletries and medications. Pack priority bedroom boxes
with bedside lamps, window coverings and linens.
• The kitchen is third since grabbing takeout is reasonable while
you put things in order. Pack kitchen gear as if you're camping out,
plus bring the small appliances (toaster, kettle, microwave). Pack
dry goods you can round out with a short trip to the grocery store.
TAKE A PICTURE
Photo documentation can be a lifesaver. Shoot the
back of the TV set, your PC and other electronics
before you dismantle them. You'll thank yourself
when you're setting them up in your new place.
Photograph anything that could be damaged in
case you have to make an insurance claim. Shoot
the utility meters in the home you are leaving and
on arrival at your new home. Take photos or a
video once the old place is empty to show move-
out condition and be camera-ready in case there is
damage to document at the new place on arrival.
There, you've got the 4-1-1. Now it's time to get
packing.
