If you love to barbecue and enjoy your backyard in summer, adding a deck at the outset will increase your mortgage costs, but you'll also enjoy your home a lot more right from the start. Experts usually suggest having your home prewired to accommodate a home automation system, even if you don't plan to have one installed right away. You might consider having an electric-vehicle charger installed in the garage, as well. And finally, you should consider the best long- term location. Do you want to live close to your parents, or your grandkids? In the country or close to downtown? If you go the lake every weekend, a development close to the Perimeter might be the best option. During the Parade of Homes, there are two dozen communities to explore, from Stonewall to St. Adolphe, Brandon to East St. Paul and all points in between. If you see a show home you like, remember floorplans are portable, and builders often have properties in multiple communities. This fall, you can see mirror images of a few Prairie Pointe show homes across town in Highland Pointe.
