THE OVERALL EFFECT IS EXACTLY WHAT SCANLON AIMED FOR — AIRY, LIGHT, BRIGHT AND CLEAN. Scanlon brought the farmhouse vibe inside with a board-and-batten facade on the fireplace surround, and with a white shiplap feature wall in the main- floor powder room. Staged for a young family, with a nursery setup in one of the secondary bedrooms, the house shows a handful of economical choices to good advantage. Subway tile in a herringbone pattern adorns the kitchen backsplash, and with the exception of bathrooms and the generously sized second-floor laundry room, there's wood-look laminate flooring throughout, including on the main staircase. The overall effect is exactly what Scanlon aimed for — airy, light, bright and clean. A little bit farmhouse, a little bit Scandinavian, the 1,646-square-foot home fills the transitional- modern bill. The primary bedroom is staged with a sleek, black metal four-poster bed and the kitchen zone and bathrooms are outfitted with contemporary black lighting fixtures and hardware. The two-tone white and maple kitchen looks pristine with its slim white quartz countertops, flat-front cabinets and chic little black pulls — a surprise element that's been a hit with visitors. "We went a little more minimalist. That's starting to trend — that handle has become quite popular," Scanlon says. The pulls also make a splash in the family bathroom and primary ensuite upstairs, and in the powder room, which is discreetly tucked into the far end of the front hallway, directly opposite from the foyer. There's more black metal on the main staircase, where a substantial maple cap and peek-a-boo railings create a unique focal point between the great room and kitchen area. It's a subtle touch, but one that has great visual impact. POH Parade of Homes FALL 2022 13
