Your cat's best life starts
with the basic needs:
access to food and fresh
water, litter boxes,
playtime and enrichment.
I
f you're bringing a new pet home
for the first time, these things will help them feel secure in
a new environment and help them settle in.
Cats are intelligent creatures that crave a combination
of active play and opportunities to be inquisitive. A little
extra attention and some items they can claim as their own
might make your relationship with your cat more fur-filling.
"Having mental and physical stimulation is important so
that they don't have all this pent up energy that has nowhere
to go," says Jamie Murphy, retail operations supervisor and
behaviour counsellor at the Winnipeg Humane Society.
"Taking care of their mental health is just as important as their
physical health because cats can become bored, and boredom
can take signs of depression such as being lethargic, lower
appetite, not really being as much of a cat as they could be."
