has it all … or does it? "What tends to
happens to people is they budget for
the architectural changes to their new
home, but a lot of times the furniture
and the decorative items are put
on the backburner," Dyck says. The
result: "All of a sudden, I'm having to
buy folding chairs for my family room
for the next six months."
It takes time and money to furnish a
home, so try not to run out of either of
those things. Furniture is a significant
part of the budget, she says. "For a
room you could be spending $10,000
to $30,000 on furniture, depending on
the scale and type. You also have to
order it early. We do all this cabinetry
and these finishings, and we forget
the place that we live — we live on our
sofa. We live at our dining table. We
live at our office chair."
