The upstairs loft can easily be
turned into a bedroom if needed.
"Our goal was to have lots of
natural light in the house, so we
put in lots of big windows," he
notes. "The wide plank flooring
also has a nice rustic tone, too. "
The choice of that particularly
earthy, textured tone — which
evokes a warm, inviting feel —
turns out to be an inspired one.
Stride into the kitchen, and you
can't help but notice that the
flooring meshes perfectly with
the lower cabinets.
"We put taupe cabinets down
low to blend with the flooring and
grey cabinets up high," Manak
explains. "They go right up to
the ceiling because we thought
it was better to do that to match
the lines of the hood fan and to
create a more luxurious look. The
cabinetry is custom, not generic."
Likewise, the backsplash was
anything but an afterthought.
"We purposely chose to put in a
herringbone-style tile backsplash
to add to the modern farmhouse
feel. The upgraded quartz coun-
tertops look great, too, as do
features like a black granite sink
and black fixtures and handles."
