In the master bedroom, another long picture
window offers a panoramic view, and there
are oversized windows in the other bed-
rooms — children no longer have to stand on
tiptoe to look out their windows, thanks to
improved energy efficiency that supports a
trend toward larger windows in every room.
"Clients are looking for windows that are
made of materials that are maintenance free,
and (they) are concerned about long-term
energy savings," Vassallo says, adding triple-
pane windows with sunblock protection are
becoming the norm in KDR houses.
"The benefits are obvious — the client
spends a little more money upfront, but the
savings in home maintenance and window
upkeep, not to mention reduced hydro bills,
quickly add up to cost savings."
With more efficient options that alleviate
concerns about heating or cooling loss, mul-
tiple-paned and oversized windows let the
sun shine in, creating bright, airy spaces and
making living areas feel larger.
