For owner and manager Ray Dansereau, it's gratifying to be recognized once again for his efforts. "In an industry like this, there are many different shops. To be singled out to be the winner of an award, it's great," he said. "It at least lets you know that you're going in the right direction." The driving force behind their success hinges on the personal service offered by Dansereau and his five technicians. "It's nice when you phone an automotive repair shop where you get the owner answering the phone and the owner doing the pricing. It's much nicer than when you phone a dealership and you have to press 1 and press 2 and then somebody will get back to you," he said. "It's nice to get that immediate gratification when you call to ask what's wrong with your car and somebody puts you at ease. People love that." As both a licensed journeyman mechanic and a licensed journeyman electrician, Dansereau combines an in-depth knowledge of how the two trades tie together. "Back in the '70s, I started as an electrician to begin with. It helps to have a good knowledge of how things work electrically," he said. "It really gives you a good head start, especially with the newer vehicles, to have a background in how to read schematics and electrical." Located at the foot of the Maryland Bridge across from the Misericordia Hospital, Bridge Motors specializes in automotive repair services for both domestic and imported vehicles. "We do it all, big and small — everything from motors to brakes to transmissions. We try to be your one-stop shop," Dansereau said. "We even do the little things. If your mirror is taken off when you're coming out of the garage, we'll gladly help you out there. We try to do it all. We've got a lot of loyal customers." Since he opened the business in 1988, Dansereau has enjoyed the excitement of operating the repair shop where no two days are ever the same. "I like working with the different technicians. They all have their different stories all day long. The day-to-day routine with them is fun. As for the customers themselves, they're always very interesting. They always have a story. I feel like I'm a bartender here sometimes," he said with a laugh. "Every time I come to work, there's a new challenge. Just when you think you'll be able to handle every situation, there's a new situation that's going to be challenging. Somehow or other, it never gets dry."
