Over the past 10 years, the community of Sage Creek has blossomed into a thriving neighbourhood with more than 1,200 homes, com- mercial properties, green spaces and paths. A school is on its way, along with ad- ditional businesses, and more. Sage Creek has quickly become a well-rounded and close-knit neighbourhood that homeowners are proud to call their own. Residents say it's a welcoming and active place that makes them feel right at home. "In my old neighbourhood I knew the couples on either side of me, that's it. There was nothing going on," says Lang Wong, a member of the Sage Creek Residents' Association (SCRA). "It's totally dif- ferent here—it's been great," he says. The SCRA organizes a wide variety of events from holiday parties and trick-or-treating to bike safety instruction and commu- nity garage sales. "…There's always something happening." These types of organized activities really bring neighbours together, both for fun and for more practical purposes, says Trisha Cooling, another SCRA member. "When it came time to work on the park, we did a survey to see what residents wanted. There was already something in mind, but what we heard back from the community was totally different—and that input made our plan even better." Having an active residents' as- sociation gives people a say in what is planned, and ultimately what actually happens in their neighbourhood. It also provides a forum to share their ideas and concerns as things evolve. Sage Creek A NEIGHBOURHOOD SHAPED BY COMMUNITY By KiK innovation for Qualico communities 134 Parade of Homes Fall 2014
