Winnipeg'sgeneralstrikeof1919resultedinlabourreformsthatformedthe foundationoffundamentalrightsforallworkersacrossCanada. Andthroughoutourhistory,Manitobanshavebeenattheforefrontof protectingminoritylanguagerights. ThistraditionofstandingupforwhatisrightandembracingtoleranceanddiversityiswhyManitoba remainsatopdestinationforimmigrantsfromallovertheworld. Ourgovernmentisproudtoensurepeopleofallbackgrounds,orientations,creedsandabilitieshave thesameopportunitiesthatsomanyhavefoundfortheirfamilieshere. Today,webeginanewchapterasweopenthedoorstotheCanadianMuseumforHumanRights. It'sachapterstartedbythelatevisionaryIsraelAsper,butwillultimatelybewrittenbythemillions ofpeoplewhowillwalkthroughthesedoorsandbeinspiredtofighthateandoppressionintheirown communities,hereinCanadaandacrosstheglobe.
