These days, more and more people are choosing
to outfit their new homes with systems that ex-
pand into great rooms to create home theatres,
he adds.
"The number of projects have gone up about
four times over the last few years. It's now far
more common to see people integrating home
theatres into automation."
Sean Banks, of K & S Electronics, agrees the trend
to automation is taking off.
"We're definitely seeing it more and more – new
home buyers are looking at using the latest tech-
nology to take complete control of their home,"
he says. "That means not only the audio-video aspect, but also things like
security, surveillance, lights (with automatic turn-on feature), motorized
blinds and even temperature."
Moreover, control over those functions can come from more than one
source.
"you can use a control 4 system (touch panel) in the home to control things
from one central spot, or you can even use your phone to give you remote
access to your home. Say you leave home and forget to close your garage
door; you can use your phone to access the system and close it from wher-
ever you might be," Banks says.
advance Electronics operations manager Trevor Siepman says systems
controlled via iPad, smartphone or built-in touch panel are both conve-
nient and potentially all-encompassing.
