caMille MetcalFe cook I applied to both the regular culinary program at Red River College and the apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship got back to me first. I'm very glad they did because I got more out of it than I would have with the regular program due to great instruc- tors and classmates. Our instructor Chef Cameron Tait always encouraged the apprenticeship students to go above and beyond, no matter the task. I owe a great deal to him and my classmates for making my time as an apprentice enjoyable. Gary pott crane and hoistinG eQuipMent operator I joined the program because I have always been interested in cranes and craning and I finally got my chance to do it in 2012. It's a challenging posi- tion, always something different and it's a dream job that I've wanted to do since childhood. I have an awesome job that I can make a good living at, fulfilling a childhood dream. Currently I am em- ployed with Crane Guys Inc and having a great time with an awesome job! rene caya railway car technician I started with CN Rail in April of 2011 as a Carman apprentice. In the fall of 2012, I was enrolled by CN in the Railway Car Technician Program at Red River College as part of my apprenticeship training. I love the diversity of jobs available in the Railway Car Technician trade. daVid cocklin heAvy dut y equipMent techniciAn- foreign quAlificAtion recognition In 2007, I had a great opportunity with Sigfusson Northern, a Manitoba-based construction company. Work entailed equipment teardown to be flown in by helicopter then reassembly in remote locations. Currently I am the shop foreman out of Sigfusson Northern's main shop in Lundar. The skills, knowledge and experiences that I have gained since being in Canada and working with Sigfusson Northern have been amazing not to mention all the people I have met and friends I have made. kolten courtney Marine and outdoor power eQuipMent technician I chose Marine and Outdoor Power Equipment Technician because powersports have been my pas- sion since I was old enough to reach the throttle. It's not just a job, it's a lifestyle. What I liked most about the powersports program was that I educate myself best with hands-on experience. Achieving journey- man status has benefitted me by raising the quality and craftsmanship of my work. It made me a valu- able employee and I'm now currently operating my own powersports performance and repair shop, Full Throttle Powersports. phil rose GasFitter (doMestic) I started with my company Stittco in 2006. After a few years of filling propane cylinders and driving a bulk truck with them, an opportunity came up to get into the gas fitting trade and I jumped on it. I really do enjoy the work. Most people think of gas fitting as putting pipe together to run a stove or furnace and there is some of that involved, but the biggest part of my trade is troubleshooting and repairing electronics in gas equipment. It is a very rewarding feeling when you find the faulty part of a complex system. HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECIPIENTS 2015 toni Matychak esthetician- nail technician I chose my program about two years ago. I had want- ed to take it years ago while finishing my hairstyling apprenticeship, although it was never a good time to go back to school. Nail technology complemented my hairstyling well, and my clients appreciate that they can get all services done at once. I enjoy being creative and doing something different every day. I worked very hard to keep my grades high enough to qualify for supervision exemption, and I was able to start my own business right out of school.
