chris parisien reFriGeration and air conditioninG Mechanic- coMMercial I chose this program after watching my father prog- ress in his career as a tradesman. That inspired me to become a tradesperson myself. It's a field that is always offering a dynamic variety and challenging tasks. As well, it's opened doors to potential career opportunities throughout Canada for me. keVin Brandt Bricklayer Bricklaying is an age-old trade that gives buildings ir- replaceable character and durability. There's just some- thing about constructing a solid wall, brick by brick, that is so rewarding. Initially I thought of it as just another job, but through my apprenticeship it has become a pas- sion. I recommend RRC's bricklaying program to anyone who enjoys working with their hands, pays attention to detail and can handle hard work. Thank you to RRC and Apprenticeship Manitoba for facilitating the trades programs, and thank you to Lego for giving me an early childhood head start! reid donaldson diesel enGine Mechanic This opportunity has been graciously provided to me by CN, a company that believes in continuing education for its workforce. I valued the promotion of self-learning as well as having the support from experienced and knowledgeable staff throughout the program. The material provided and reviewed was relevant to that of my workplace requirements. I have gained more knowledge and experience which aids me in my everyday tasks at work. caMeron palMer power electrician I attended the University of Manitoba intending to achieve a degree in Electrical Engineering. The course work was fascinating. However, having realized that I needed a more practical area of study, I transferred to Red River College where I enrolled in Electronic/Elec- trical/Instrumentation Engineering Technology. I was offered a co-op position with Manitoba Hydro work- ing alongside power electricians for the summer of 2009. Last year, I completed Manitoba Hydro's Station Operator program and am now fully qualified in both trades. I work at Manitoba Hydro's HVDC converter sta- tions as an Operating/Electrical Technician. daniel dewar ironworker (Generalist) I joined Ironworkers Local 728 in 2010. Apprenticeship is mandatory with the union in our trade so I signed up as an apprentice Ironworker as soon as I was sworn in as a union member. The combination of technical and practi- cal training gives the apprentice a great foundation for success. Some benefits have been steady, year-round work, be it locally or Canada-wide, as well as great pay and benefits. I appreciate the opportunity to work in an exciting, diverse work environment. kaitlin BoGaski hairstylist I knew from about the age of 12 that I wanted to go into hairstyling. I loved playing with everyone's hair and quickly found that it was something I both thor- oughly enjoyed, and was good at. I started my pro- gram at Winnipeg Technical College (now Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology) in 2011. Hair- styling for me is a great creative outlet. Nothing is more rewarding than when a client leaves your chair feeling happy. I'm thrilled I chose to pursue this field as it has been an exciting journey, and I have found an amazing salon, with great people to work with. HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECIPIENTS 2015 carlyle isaac welder I chose the welder apprenticeship program in the summer of 2011 at age 16. I had a good job working for a journeyperson welder and I could see a strong career future in the welding trade. They got me through the program without it costing me too much money and I also liked the amount of shop practice hours we got while in school. I received a higher wage at my place of employment. I am very happy I took a trade and I would strongly encourage and recommend it for everyone. terry roGers sheet Metal worker I've been doing sheet metal construction with East Side Ventilation for five years now. My dad is the reason I started this career. It has allowed me to see Manitoba from bottom to top and even sent me to Vancouver. A total of 41 students were recognized for their achievements in the Apprenticeship Manitoba program this year. Regrettably, all are not showcased in this publication.
