29 ROCKIN' Roots Bob Dylan took a musical history tour of Winnipeg during a concert stop several years ago, paying a visit to Neil Young's childhood home. Young's pal Randy Bachman, The Guess Who, The Weakerthans, Crash Test Dummies and Chantal Kreviazuk are among the many musicians who honed their talents in Winnipeg, and our music scene is as vibrant as ever. The King's Head Pub in the Exchange District hosts bands on weekends, and the spacious venue is a great place to order up pub grub and authentic Indian curry. St. Boniface's Le Garage Café adds funk and jazz to the mix. And The Cavern Club, downstairs from the Toad in the Hole Pub in Osborne Village is an eternally hip venue for live music. Outdoors, kick up your heels on Corydon Avenue on Friday and Saturday nights from June to August, when live bands tune up crowds on street corners. In Brandon, pull up a lawn chair or blanket and groove to Music in the Parks, free entertainment offered on weeknights during the summer. > kingshead.ca > garagecafe.ca > toadinthehole.ca > brandon.ca > corydonbiz.com See manitobamusic.com for up-to-date music listings at pubs, coffee houses, nightclubs and festival venues around the province.
