76 Experiences ROCK & Roll Whiteshell Provincial Park's granite cliffs and Precambrian Shield outcroppings make it a natural destination for rock climbers, who flock to sites such as Castle Rock on Big Whiteshell Lake and Lily Pond Cliff west of Caddy Lake. In the North, Precambrian rocks near Snow Lake and Wekusko Falls Provincial Park provide a challenge for expert climbers, and one of the best spots is easily accessible from PR 393 near the airport. Or brave the limestone cliffs at the south end of Wekusko Lake at Herb Lake Landing, a former gold-mining town off Hwy 39. There's a marked trail, but watch for extreme drops and hidden crevices. PEDAL Power Easy riders can enjoy a jaunt on the paved road that loops through the woods and around the lake at Birds Hill Provincial Park or follow routes that wind through Winnipeg's city parks and along Red and Assiniboine river trails. Urban trails in Brandon let you stick to paved surfaces or veer off into the woods on cycling routes along the Assiniboine River. Like it rough? Mountain bikers are naturally drawn to the rolling terrain and hills of Turtle Mountain Provincial Park, and the Brandon Hills Wildlife Management Area provides a challenge for the most experienced bikers. Tackle the steep escarpments of Riding Mountain National Park, where multi-use trails abound, or blaze a trail through Spruce Woods Provincial Park's 40-kilometre Newfoundland Trail. In the Central Plains Pembina Valley region, gravel pathways and old downhill ski routes offer scenic rides, and in the east, the south Whiteshell Trail lets you glide along 13 kilometres from Falcon Lake to the West Hawk Lake townsite. PADDLE your Own CANOE Savour the serenity as you dip your paddle into gentle waters on a quiet lake, or go for broke on rushing river rapids as you follow in the wake of the voyageurs. Head to Grass River Provincial Park or launch your canoe west of the park at Cranberry Portage and take a 176-kilometre run to OUTDOOR W a n t t o c o m e o u t a n d p l a y ?
